News 2010 Changes to ASLA National and its effect on members
There are no association coucillors advising on behalf of the state association. Instead one Director for each state/ territory can nominate to be on a Board of Directors. Where there is a state/ territory association, the Director must come from the association membership and must be on committe. Interestingly, whether the state/territory has 30 members or 500 members, the voting power of each Director is exactly the same.
Oddly, where there is no state/territory association (Tasmania, NT and ACT), a person can nominate in his/her own right without clearance from any affillated professional association.
How does this structure help the profession in NSW?
This is a good question and must be seen at a visionary level as ASLA National works to developing its profile as the peak voice for school libraries and teacher librarians. The Board is undegoing some restructure at this time (September 2011) as it seeks a President but its various Projects are up and running.
Of course the important area of concern is the ongoing development of 21C school libraries capable of delivering a serivce that supports the learning needs of our new generations of digital and social media learners. The ongoing alert regarding the Inquiry is everyone's business. Ask your Association President Mr Bill Sommerville, or your Director ASLA National, Mrs Georgia Phillips, or ASLA National for more information.
