John H. Lee was and will be remembered as a passionate advocate of teacher librarianship in education. He demonstrated this throughout his own career from his first school library at Cabramatta Primary School in 1961 through to his final appointment at Waverley College in 2000.
John continually led by example, was an innovator in many aspects of teacher librarianship, challenged us to go with him into the technological future and was generous in sharing his insights at conferences and on a one to one basis.
The many achievenments of John's career included:
Professional development and professional teacher librarian associations were dear to John's heart and his contributions as a speaker across New South Wales and nationally were highly regarded.
John served as President of ASLA (NSW), was a National Councillor and was instrumental in ensuring that ASLA (NSW) did not fold in the early nineties when committee numbers were critically low. He was a life member of the Assocation and a winner of the John Hirst Award. John was the initiator of many projects undertaken by ASLA (NSW). His contributions futhered teacher-librarian expectations.
Prior to his untimely death John was working with staff at Waverley College on integrating technology and information skills into their teaching programs.
In the spirit of this generous and innovative teacher librarian, ASLA(NSW) is proud to announce the ASLA(NSW) John H Lee Memorial Award.
