Advocacy
SLANSW Inc., as part of its mission, advocates for mandatory inclusion of professionally qualified teacher librarians in every school over and above the teaching staff formula.
Media
It aims to increase public awareness of the positive impact that a school library and qualified teacher librarian make in relation to student literacy and academic achievement.
It supports the professional involvement of library administration staff and seeks to ensure that staffing formula in school libraries meets the Standards advocated in Learning for the Future edition2.
Awards
Tha association honours members and people from beyond the profession through recognising their contribution toward policy development, leadership in school libraries or teacher librairianship, innovative use of emerging learning technologies, children's and youth literature, literacy, and more.
Grants
The Association is a strong advocate for continued professional learning and has developed a number of grants for members, especially in regional NSW, to attend courses, conferences, and more. As part of its advocacy role, SLANSW is dedicated to practitioner research, offering grants to assist the researcher
